WHAT THEY ARE

Known in Portuguese as Autorização de Residência para Atividade de Investimento (ARI), Golden Visas enable nationals from Third States to be able to obtain a temporary resident permit for the purpose of investment, waiving the need for a residence visa to enter the country.
WHO HAS ACCESS

All nationals from Third States who are involved in investments, who meet one of the requirements set out in the law, may request an ARI by investing in various areas, one of which is real estate.

This may be done through the acquisition of fixed assets of a value of 500 thousand euros or more, the acquisition of fixed assets whose construction was concluded at least 30 years ago, or which are located in an area of urban renovation, as well as by making renovation works on the fixed assets acquired, amounting to an overall sum of 350 thousand euros or more.
WHAT IT ENABLES

It allows entry into Portugal without the need for a residence permit and enables the person to reside and work in the country. It also enables the person to freely move throughout the Schengen area, without needing a visa, to benefit from family reunification, to request a Permanent Residence Permit and to request Portuguese citizenship.
